Before applying for a grant, please ensure you have reviewed our Grantmaking priorities, including the list of what we do not fund. We do not make exceptions to that list.

We only accept applications through our online grant application system. See below for more detailed instructions. We accept applications at any time, but applications will only be reviewed in the weeks after our deadlines.

FOR 2026: Due to ongoing planning, the STK Foundation will be doing limited discretionary grantmaking in 2026. Organizations who are invited to apply for this funding will be notified directly. We are not accepting letters of inquiry at this time.

We will not be running an open application period this year with two exceptions:

• We will accept general or project support applications from public libraries and
• We will accept project support applications for critical equipment for fire and ambulance departments.

Please see below for more information. The deadline is October 15, 2026. Decisions will be made before the end of the calendar year.

We expect to return to regular open application grantmaking in 2027.

We appreciate grant updates, as it allows us to better understand the impact of our grantmaking. You may write a report just for us, upload a report you wrote for another funder, or provide another update that makes sense (like an annual report).  If you received a grant before 2026 and would like to submit a report or update, please utilize the contact form or mailing address for that purpose. If you received a grant from 2026 forward, please log in to the online grant system and check your “follow ups” section.

As noted above, in 2026 we will only be opening grant applications for libraries and public safety organizations. We ask that organizations that do not meet these criteria please wait until 2027. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact us.

For Fall 2026, the STK Foundation is pleased to open a limited competitive grant opportunity for two specific types of organizations:

1. Libraries
2. Public safety organizations

Library support grants will be awarded to libraries in Maine that are open to the general public. Libraries may be municipal libraries or independent nonprofits.  All libraries may apply for operating support, project support, capital projects, or capacity building projects.

Public Safety grants will be awarded to fire departments and emergency response services in Maine for purchasing critical equipment. Municipalities or emergency management agencies may apply on behalf of their fire and emergency departments. Public safety organizations may apply for project support, capital projects, or capacity building projects.

In both cases, there is a preference for areas of the state that have fewer access to financial resources.
